Registered Nurse Schools in New York
There is an abundance of Registered Nurse schools in New York. For those that live in New York state or those that are planning to move there you are fortunate because New York seems to be one of the states that have their act together when it comes to fulfilling the need for qualified nurses in the US.
The choice of paths are the same as in most states. An ADN or Associates Degree in Nursing for those just getting their feet wet in the industry> There is also the LPN certification, or Licensed Practical Nurse certification for those that want to get in and out of school fast so they can begin practice as a nurse, only to return later (with perhaps a mix of both online and walk-in schooling) to become an RN. Then there is the hard core career-minded student that has a drive to get their Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN Degree) straight away so they can become a second tier RN (we refer to it that way no one else does).
There are plenty of Registered nurse Schools in New York even for the lifers. The Nursing students that eventually want to teach other nurses, specialize in a particular RN field (like midwifery) and those that just want to manage other RNs.
New York State Requirements to Become an RN
We really liked this list when we visited their site so we have republished it here (in abridged form):
The be an Registered in NY you must:
- Be of good moral character.
Funny at first, but we think this just means passing a background check. - Be at least 18 year old.
Actually, let us let you in on a little secret, you can get your LPN certification legally when you are just 17. So you can start really that young. - Meet education requirements.
Obviously. - Complete coursework or training in the identification and reporting of child abuse.
Sad reality that this is a requirement in NY. On the flip side, shouldn't all states require this as well? - Meet examination requirements.
Another no brainer, you must pass the NCLEX-RN to be certified as an Registered Nurse in any state not just New York.
That's the very brief summary of requirements for Registered Nurses in the state of New York.
